Sa Calobra Road
With impossible turns, ravines and steep drops, hidden in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, Sa Calobra is one of the most beautiful roads in Spain and the whole world!
Sa Calobra at a Glance
Built in 1932 as a spectacular masterpiece of engineering, the Sa Calobra road has the added value of being built without machinery, overcoming more than 800 metres (2,624 feet) of uneven land, with parts even squeezed between the steep rock walls of the mountain range. The artist who designed the road was also the architect of the road leading to Cap de Formentor.
Explore Sa Calobra
Entering Sa Calobra is like entering a car racing video game in which impossible curves with unimaginable gradients are mixed with bicycles, motorbikes, buses and hundreds of tourists in their rental cars. It's certainly not the best option for the faint of heart or risk-averse drivers.
At the top of the harbour is a lookout point from where you can contemplate the marvellous layout of impossible bends that twist and turn at angles of up to 180 degrees, making it a real challenge for even the most experienced drivers.
One of the best-known bends on the demanding Sa Calobra road is the Tie Knot, a stunning point where it makes a complete 360-degree turn and wraps around itself to the surprise of the drivers.
As well as being one of Mallorca's main tourist attractions, Sa Calobra offers access to one of the island's most popular attractions, the impressive canyon of Es Torrent de Pareis. The only ways to reach the Torrent de Pareis are by boat or by car, crossing the Sa Calobra road.
