Platja d'Illetes
Located on the southeastern coast of the island, Platja d'Illetes is one of the most popular beaches in Mallorca. Its calm waters extend along a quiet bay 200 metres (656 ft) long, covered in white sand, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and all kinds of amenities.
The area of Illetes began to develop in the mid-20th century as a pleasant tourist destination where summer houses were built. As time went on, a notable rise in the number of visitors on the island led to the drastic transformation of the landscape, filling the area with large hotels and apartment buildings.
A Stroll Along the Shore
Platja d'Illetes is popular among visitors for its clear waters and soft white sand. Due to its proximity to Palma and the fact that it's a very popular beach, it can get very crowded, especially during the summer months.
Like the majority of the beaches in Mallorca, Platja d'Illetes travellers are mainly made up of English and German tourists, although many locals also visit the stunning beach.
Illetes is one of the most accessible beaches in Mallorca, and its amenities include a large car park, although it's usually rather difficult to find a free spot.
The beach, which belongs to the municipality of Calviá, is located just 10 kilometres (6 miles) from Palma and is connected to the capital by bus. The journey is very short, so many people often choose this option to avoid any potential traffic headaches.
Popular But Crowded
Platja d'Illetes offers leisure both during the day with all kinds of outdoor activities, and at night, as it has a well-known beach club, as well as plenty of different bars and restaurants in the surrounding area.
This beach is ideal for those in search of 'action' and for those who don't mind being quite close to other beach goers. However, if you're in search of a quiet escape surrounded by untouched nature, Illetes may not be the ideal spot.
