Platja de Santa Ponça
Extending over a bay of calm and clear waters just 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) away from Palma, Platja de Santa Ponça is an extensive sandy area with all kinds of services and is one of the most important beaches in Mallorca.
Taking a Look Back
In addition to its natural charm, Platja de Santa Ponça has featured in many chapters of Mallorca's history, such as the disembarkment of the troops of King Jaime I to snatch the island from the Muslims.
In 1928, the development of the Platja de Santa Ponça area began with the aim of creating a peaceful summer retreat. However, these plans were soon halted by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. It wasn't until the 1970s that construction resumed, leading to the many tourist facilities you see there today.
